The starting kit is the one number set Mega Crit re-balances least. Across both clients the skeleton never moves: strikes + defends + exactly two signature cards, gold frozen at 99, HP as the character's personality stat.

What the constants say
- HP is a personality stat. Returning characters keep theirs exactly: Ironclad 80, Silent 70, Defect 75. New blood lands inside the same band (Necrobinder 66 is the new glass-cannon floor; Regent 75). Watcher's 72 and Pure Water stay behind in StS1's client.
- Gold is frozen at 99 for every kit in both games — one constant nobody ever touched.
- Decks are 10 cards (Silent 12) with the identical skeleton: strikes + defends + exactly two signature cards. The sequel's Necrobinder (Bodyguard, Unleash) and Regent (Falling Star, Venerate) follow the grammar precisely; even Silent's 12-card asymmetry survives verbatim.
- Starting relics are identity: Burning Blood, Ring of the Snake, Cracked Core carry over unchanged; each new character gets exactly one.
- Ironclad and Silent start unlocked in StS2; Defect, Necrobinder and Regent unlock through play.
The test class tells on itself
One more kit rides along in StS2's files: a hidden random-run test character (1 HP, 1 gold, Circlet, a deck mixing every character's strikes and defends) — the developers' harness, not a playable row. Deprived (1000 HP, empty deck, no relics, yet localized in 13 languages) is an unreleased scaffold — see the cut-content tour.
